How many dripping faucets should you have?
The truth is, you only need to allow one of your faucets to drip.
The dripping faucet should be as far away from the water source as possible so the water will flow through the entire length of the system. If you aren’t sure where the incoming water source is located, setting any faucet to drip will help.
A common misconception is that the drip prevents water from freezing because it stays in motion when it’s running through the pipes. Although this helps, the point of dripping faucets isn’t to prevent freezing, it’s to prevent bursting. When a pipe freezes, pressure builds up between the faucet and the freeze point by the expanding ice section. By leaving the faucet open even a drip, it gives the pressure somewhere to go.
Take extra precautions to protect pipes that have frozen in the past.
